In between Denton and Dallas on the fringes of the Dallas metro area is Carrollton, Texas. The area was first settled back in 1842 by several families from Illinois. For a while, Carrollton was a peaceful agricultural town, but with the arrival of the railways, Carrollton greatly benefited from its proximity to Dallas, and soon after became an industrialized city.

Carrollton is now one of the most populous cities in Texas, and one of the very best suburbs of Dallas to live in or visit. Its prime positioning in the “Golden Triangle” of Texas ensures that when you book an RV in Carrollton, there is no limit to the things you can do or travel to. Be sure to rent an RV when something exciting is going on, like Carrollton Festival at the Switchyard, held in historic downtown Carrollton. This incredible event held by the city has concerts all day and night, amusement park rides, delicious street food, and much more.

Discover Carrollton

Explore the Outdoors

The city of Carrollton is responsible for managing a variety of public spaces including parks, greenways, recreation centers, pools, museums, golf courses, and playgrounds. The emphasis the city puts on outdoor recreation is apparent with every park you visit, like Martha Pointer Park or Oak Creek Park. Both of these parks adequately represent the parks department and the excellence they uphold in maintaining these public spaces; it is common for most of the parks to have playscapes for kids, sports fields, walking paths, picnic pavilions, volleyball and tennis courts, and much more.

The main reason to rent an RV in Carrollton is the versatility it offers when mapping a route of places to go. There are so many stunning lakeside campgrounds, forests, hiking trails, and nature preserves within driving distance to Carrollton so it all depends on what direction you head and what you want to see. LLELA Nature Preserve sits on the southern edge of Lewisville Lake, and is an excellent destination for those that enjoy canoeing, kayaking, birdwatching, geocaching, and hiking. Walk-in camping is allowed at the park but unfortunately, you cannot stay there in your Carrollton RV rental.

Wynwood Park and Hidden Cove Park are located on the shores of Lewisville Lake too, where boating, swimming, and fishing are popular pastimes, especially in the summertime. These fun little lake parks are known for their marinas, beaches, and golf courses, with unbelievable views of the sunset over the massive man-made lake. Lake Tawakoni State Park, located on Lake Tawakoni, is yet another campground along the water's edge. The park gained notoriety due to a massive communal spider web that was found in the forest.

If you decide to venture down I-45 towards Houston, there are four amazing national forests located in the same general area. Sam Houston National Forest is the most notable for its massive size and numerous hiking loops that long-distance trekkers enjoy. There are a few national parks in Texas like Big Bend National Park and Guadalupe Mountains National Park if you don't mind driving across the entire state for some breathtaking views.
