Pisgah National Forest encompasses 512,758 acres in Western North Carolina. The national forest was established in 1916, making it one of the oldest forests to be designated in the United States. Several forests, including Boone National Forest and Unaka National Forest, were merged to form Pisgah National Forest.

The most popular hiking trails include Moore Cove Falls Trail and Looking Glass Rock Trail.

Camping at Pisgah National Forest

Lake Powhatan Campground is equally popular with campers. There are 94 campsites spread over four loops. There are 20 full hookups sites and three electric only sites. Amenities offered include hot showers and flush toilets. Other popular campgrounds include Black Mountain Campground and Harmon Den Horse Camp.
